Android Oreo – Background GPS Tracking Problem – Fix
With introduction of Android Oreo some applications including Mapit has been affected by the background location limits. Basically if the app is not on the screen the GPS location updates are being stopped causing GPS tracking not working as expected.
We are working towards the necessary changes in the app to get the app working regardless of this limitations, however if you are affected by this Android Oreo problem there is a fix available but it requires Android adb installed on your PC.
To apply the fix please follow the steps below:
- Install ADB onto your computer.
- Connect your Device to PC via USB
- Execute command adb shell
- Enter ADB command settings put global location_background_throttle_package_whitelist “com.osedok.gisdatacollector”
That’s it! If you input the command correctly you won’t see an error or anything but now you can use GPS location unrestricted in Android 8.0 Oreo and Mapit – you may need to restart the app.
We are sorry for any inconvenience and we are working on a permanent solution to the problem without the need to apply the steps above by users.
